Z-Pinning Techniques to Improve Energy Absorption Capabilities of CFRP Tubular Structures

Abstract This paper investigates the use of z-pinning reinforcement in CFRP tubular structures under axial impact, to find optimum design increase specific energy absorption (SEA). Through-the-thickness is known as a technique improve integrity and fracture resistance composite materials structures. Manufacturing testing unpinned are conducted create base model validate numerical results. A finite element tube dynamic impact developed using LS-DYNA software, conducting parametric studies, mesh sensitivity analysis trigger modelling research. The proposed techniques researched, an energy-based contact pinned areas. Five different designs reinforced tubes designed analysed, z-pinned pattern terms SEA. novelties this research indicate that can SEA reduce initial collapse load during crushing. Our results vertical banded shows highest least values comparison with specimen, which indicates improvement crashworthiness parameters tubes.
